This is our version of the classic peony support. Start early in spring, when the shoots from a peony are visible, and place the grid-shaped support into the soil almost as far as it will go. When the stems starts to grow up through the grid, pull it up gently occasionally during the growing season until about it is about 30 cm above the soil.

This method will support the entire bottom growth of stems, while allowing the whole plant to retain a natural shape.

Lilian is of course good to any plant that needs support, for example asters and coneflowers. But remember to place the support in place before the stems have developed too much.
